Black Hole Project, 2005
During a ten day stay at Residence Barberini in the centre of Rome, Italy I work on the first episode of the Black Hole Project. The second in New York from 15th of July till 15th of August. The third one is Istanbul at the Garanti Contemporary Art Center and the 4th in Rotterdam in 2006; a presentation and conclusion of the research and the productions, in collaboration with Marko Stamenkovic, Ania Jagiello, Steven Barich and others.
In the city centre I place one black circle (13m. diametre) in squares, parks and buildings. It' is made from cloth and 'sucks up' everything in it's path. This process of placing and experimenting with the circle will be documented and visible in the suite of Residence Barberini. The Black Hole is the metaphor for the force and economic pull of the city. For it's power to dominate and control. At the same time it is the dark room for repressed thoughts and dark spots in a persons, city's or country's history. In the suite at the top floor guests are being invited to talk about different subject matters, some of which are more directly related to the location.
