Ladonia is a Free State that proclaimed itself a free nation in 1996. One could argue that the country has its origin in the Artist Lars Vilks Land art projects ”Nimis” (Latin – ”too much”) and Arx (Latin – ”fortress”). These two colossal sculptures are erected without permit on a remote part of a nature reserve on Kullabergs northeast stony shores. The battle about Arx and Nimis has rolled through the court system of Sweden during 20 years and has gone through the District Court and the Court of Civil and Criminal Appeal.

Ladonia acquires a colony in Norway (Telemark) acclaimed in May 17 (National Day in Norway). An embassy is built in Falkenberg. Here the first official state visit also takes place.

Cultural Attaché Fredrik Axwik will introduce the flag on the 9th of May.

'The banana has a little story... When Sweden first joined the European Union there were all sorts of talks about changes. Changes like that we couldn't keep things that weren't up to European standards. One such item was the banana. It should have the right angel, size, color, weight and all that. So everybody was very worried that they couldn't keep their loved things... Other things, well everything, was also standardized, the stories went. Like penises. People started wondering about the strange people in Europe that had other people sitting in a room measuring things and deciding which was up to European standard and not. I guess that's why Sweden still doesn't have Euro-money...'
