Tranzit Social Platform (www.tranzit.org)
Tranzit is a local and international project that aims at supporting contemporary art and theory in Central Europe, in particular in the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Austria. While sponsored by Erste Bank it is autonomous as regards content. Tranzit was developed in 2002 as a trans-disciplinary subsidy programme by the two curators, Mária Hlavajová and Kathrin Rhomberg, with the aim of providing an adequate response on an artistic level to the complex challenges presented by the new socio-political developments in Europe. Artists, curators and theorist are to be linked with each other in way that crosses generation and national boundaries. Tranzit intends to develop a multi-layered platform that is not only an alternative but also a complement to current cultural policy. For this reason tranzit has set itself the goal of supporting individuals as well as smaller scale activities that posess artistic potential in both the local and international context.
