Latitudes is an independent curatorial office founded in April 2005 by Max Andrews and Mariana Cánepa Luna. Latitudes collaborates with artists, institutions and organisations to facilitate and produce temporary and sustained projects including exhibitions, commissions, editorial and research initiatives and conferences. With an operational base in Barcelona [41º23’ N, 2º 11’ E], Latitudes explores local, pan-European and international networks. Latitudes is on the Editorial Board of The Bookmakers Ed.,Turin/Berlin and are curatorial advisors for APT Intelligence.
Latitudes' recent exhibition projects include: ‘THE CREST OF A WAVE’, a four part project by Lawrence Weiner (Fundació Suñol, 9 October–15 November 2008): the touring film programme 'A Stake in the Mud, A Hole in the Reel: Land Art's Expanded Field 1968–2008' Museo Tamayo, Mexico City and tour (2008); 'Greenwashing. Environment: Perils, Promises and Perplexities' (Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo, Turin, February–May 2008) and 'Extraordinary Rendition' (NoguerasBlanchard, March–May 2007). Editorial projects include: guest editors of the UOVO/14: 'Ecology, Luxury and Degradation' (Summer 2007) and the publication 'LAND, ART: A Cultural Ecology Handbook' (2006). In April 2007 Latitudes organised the 3-day symposium for the Sharjah Biennial 8, UAE in partnership with the Royal Society of Arts (RSA). Future projects include curating: the Video Lounge, Artissima 15 (Turin, 7–9 November 2008) and a series of commissions around Maasvlakte 2, the extension of Rotterdam’s port, The Netherlands.
