Viafarini was founded in 1991 as as non profit organisation for the promotion of contemporary artistic research, with an exhibition space and a documentation centre. The exhibition space is dedicated to initiatives aiming at promoting the research by the last generation of Italian artsists, as well as to site-specific projects by internationally known artists. Since 1995 Careof and Viafarini collaborate to organise solo presentations and group shows young artists, workshops and educational activities, as well as the Careof & Viafarini Documentation Centre, as part of the activity organised on behalf of the Youth Department of the Municipality of Milan. Further, Viafarini promotes outside projects through press offices and other forms of collaboration; it also offers residencies for foreign artists.
