Detail of still from Zero Latitude, Bianca Baldi, 2014

Artists talks by Bianca Baldi and Sarah van Lamsweerde, who will respond to the notion of Performing Objects within their practice.

Bianca Baldi is a visual artist based in Brussels. Her video installations bring to the fore overlooked narrative strands and the hidden structures of power. In her work, through the focus on specific cultural or sociological artefacts, historical plots reveal complex webs of political, economic and cultural influences. Baldi grew up in KwaZulu Natal, South Africa and completed her Bachelor of Art at the Michaelis School of Fine Art, Cape Town. She pursued her postgraduate studies at the Städelschule, in Frankfurt am Main, and at IUAV University of Venice.

Recent and upcoming exhibitions include: Eyes in the Back of Your Head (solo), Kunstverein Harburger Bahnhof, Hamburg (DE) 2016/ 11th Shanghai Biennale, Power Station of Art, Shanghai (CN); The AV Festival 2016, Newcastle (UK); The Image Generator II, Extra City Kunsthal, Antwerp (BE); Open House, Kunstverein Braunschweig (DE); 19th Contemporary Art Festival SESC Videobrasil, São Paolo (BR); Sightings, KZNSA, Durban (ZA); The 8th Berlin Biennale of Contemporary Art at KW Institute for Contemporary Art, Berlin (DE), Zero Latitude at the Goethe Institut, Johannesburg (ZA).

Sarah van Lamsweerde (1971) works across theater and visual arts, exploring the range between (unfamiliar) languages and mass media phenomena to rethink presence and perception within the experience of art. Her work has been shown in The Netherlands and abroad, at presentation platforms such as Onomatopee (Eindhoven, NL), Festival Something Raw (Amsterdam, NL), Incubate (Tilburg, NL), STUK (Leuven, BE), Witte de With Center for Contemporary Art (Rotterdam, NL), Performatik (Brussels, BE), Dampfzentrale (Bern, CH) etc. Her projects often start with research and tend to be labour-intensive processes in which working inspires thinking. Together with Bojana Mladenovic and Norberto Llopis Segarra she has founded Stichting Tre Tigri, to enable individual as well as collective projects in limbo - in between art disciplines. Since 2011, she is an associate artist at Veem House for Performance in Amsterdam. Besides her own work, she participates in projects by other artists, such as Zhana Ivanova and Ivana Müller.
